Congratulations to Professor Farbmacher for winning the Best Paper Award for his groundbreaking research on "Linear Fixed-Effects Estimation with Nonrepeated Outcomes" published in Econometric Reviews!

His work sheds light on biases in popular linear panel-data estimators, even when consistent with the linear model, and offers instrumental variable estimation as a promising alternative. An outstanding contribution to the field, supported by rigorous Monte Carlo simulations and empirical analysis. Well deserved!

The article, co-authored with Harald Tauchmann (FAU), was recognized with the Esfandiar Maasoumi Best Paper Award 2023, which honors the best paper in Econometric Reviews over a specific period. Farbmacher and Tauchmann’s research demonstrates that a statistical method frequently applied in empirical economics (linear fixed-effects estimation) can lead to systematically misleading results in certain cases and introduces a more robust alternative. The award-winning paper is available as an Open Access article for a limited time: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/07474938.2023.2224658.
