Prof. Dr. Christoph Lütge holds the Peter Löscher Chair for Business Ethics and Global Governance at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. His research interests include the domains of Business Ethics, Ethics of Digital Technologies, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Contractualist Ethics.
Christoph Lütge explores the conditions for ethical behavior in a globalized and pluralistic world. This includes the analysis of incentives, as well as the examination of ethical categories, which fit into our contemporary world. The goal of his research is to develop institutional design recommendations and give orientation to actors in business, politics, and society who face ethical challenges. In his current research, Prof. Lütge focuses on ethical issues such as dilemma situations in the context of digitization and emerging systems. In this regard, Prof. Lütge participated in the Ethics Commission Automated and Connected Driving of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, which developed the first ethical guidelines for automated and connected driving, and serves as vice-chairman of the ethics committee of the Bavarian Construction Industry Association.
Prof. Lütge studied philosophy, business administration, and computer science in Braunschweig, Göttingen, and Paris. He was a research fellow at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of California, San Diego. After finishing his Ph.D., he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Munich. Before taking over the Peter Löscher Chair for Business Ethics and Global Governance, he worked as an acting professor of Management, Business Ethics and Social Change at Witten/Herdecke University and as an acting professor of philosophy at TU Braunschweig. He has held visiting professor positions in Taipei, Kyoto, and Venice.
„Ethics of Technology“
The Chair of Business Ethics currently analyses ethical questions, which arise when new technologies are implemented. Special attention is paid to autonomous driving and artificial intelligence, where recent developments challenge established ethical concepts, and to the experimental method. Besides, Prof. Lütge participated in the Ethics Commission Automated and Connected Driving of the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure and is a member of the Scientific Board of the European project AI4People.
„Ethics of Competition“
The Chair of Business Ethics and Global Governances explores how competition can work in favor of the realization of ethical goals and deals with the critique of economization. A special emphasis lies on the analysis of competition in the ecology, healthcare, and education sectors. The research on competition includes recent publications such as „Ethics of Competition“ and „Order Ethics or Moral Surplus: What Holds a Society Together?“
